Damon Motorcycles' Leadership Abandons Ship

Electric motorcycle manufacturer Damon Motorcycles is facing significant leadership upheaval, with reports indicating the entire board of directors has resigned. This follows a history of unfulfilled promises, including delays in delivering motorcycles to customers and a plummeting stock price after a brief stint on NASDAQ. The company, which once garnered significant pre-orders for its innovative electric bikes, appears to be in serious trouble.
The turbulent journey of Damon Motorcycles has taken another dramatic turn, as reports suggest a mass exodus of its leadership. The electric motorcycle manufacturer, known for its ambitious promises of advanced electric bikes and safety systems, is now reportedly without its entire board of directors, who have all resigned.
Damon first gained attention pre-COVID-19, showcasing a "smart motorcycle" safety system and an electric bike prototype at CES. Early designs drew comparisons to existing models, but later prototypes hinted at original designs, promising battery and motor performance exceeding market standards and an adjustable chassis. These promises led to a significant number of pre-orders.
However, the company has yet to deliver any motorcycles to customers. Initial plans to build bikes in British Columbia, Canada, shifted to California, but no substantial factory development has materialized. After a brief and unsuccessful listing on NASDAQ, the company's stock was relegated to over-the-counter markets as its value plummeted.
Leadership changes began in late 2024 when co-founder Jay Giraud departed from his roles as CEO, president, and executive chairman. Co-founder Dominique Kwong briefly returned as CEO. Despite these shifts, and claims of securing component suppliers, the company's production timeline remained severely behind schedule. The recent departures of the Chief Financial Officer and additional board members, culminating in the reported mass resignation of the entire board, cast serious doubt on Damon Motorcycles' future. This situation highlights the challenges and risks within the electric vehicle startup landscape.
