The highly anticipated 2026 Grand National Championship season is about to ignite, with the Progressive American Flat Track series kicking off at the DAYTONA Flat Track. The Royal Enfield Short Track at DAYTONA I & II events, scheduled for Thursday, March 5, and Friday, March 6, will see more than two dozen elite motorcycle dirt trackers from eight different brands compete. This opening round coincides with the 85th annual Bike Week, drawing a massive crowd of enthusiasts to Daytona Beach, Florida.
All eyes will be on Dallas Daniels (No. 1 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07), who enters the Mission AFT SuperTwins class as the reigning champion. This marks the first time since 2020 that a rider will bear the #1 plate in the premier class, a significant honor that Daniels has meticulously prepared for, even down to the design of his new number display. Daniels is no stranger to defending a championship, having successfully done so in the KICKER AFT Singles class in 2021, where he became the first back-to-back champion.
Despite the pressure that comes with being a defending champion, Daniels is well-equipped for the challenge. While his 2025 championship run pushed him to his limits, he ultimately prevailed. This experience has only strengthened him and his Estenson Racing crew. They were not entirely satisfied with their racebike last season, but after extensive offseason development, they express confidence in their current package. This improved setup could make Daniels a formidable force for his competitors, including those on Harley-Davidson XG750Rs, such as two-time Grand National Champion Briar Bauman, who provided stiff competition last year. For riders in our region, keeping an eye on these top-tier flat track events offers a glimpse into the pinnacle of dirt track racing.
