The Turkish rider, aboard his Pata Yamaha Ten Kate YZF-R9, outpaced a field of 34 competitors. This early performance sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting race weekend.
Can Oncu demonstrated impressive speed by setting the quickest time in the initial Free Practice session for the FIM Supersport World Championship at the iconic TT Circuit Assen in The Netherlands. Piloting his Pata Yamaha Ten Kate YZF-R9, Oncu completed the 2.82-mile road course with a blistering lap of 1:37.010.
His dominant performance placed him at the top of the leaderboard, leading a competitive field of 34 riders. Following Oncu, Tom Booth-Amos secured the second-fastest time, recording a 1:37.238 on his PTR Triumph Street Triple 765 RS. Rounding out the top three was former MotoAmerica Supersport competitor Valentin Debise, who posted a 1:37.356 aboard his Eastroc Evan Bros ZXMOTO 820RR.
This early showing from Oncu suggests he will be a strong contender as the WorldSSP weekend progresses. Riders will be looking to fine-tune their setups and improve their lap times in subsequent sessions, but Oncu has certainly laid down a marker for the competition.
