TVS Apache RTX 300: A New Contender in Small-Bore Rally Bikes

TVS, a major global motorcycle manufacturer, is introducing the Apache RTX 300 in Europe, a new mini-rally bike that aims to challenge the Honda CRF300L Rally. While offering significantly more horsepower, the Apache RTX 300 also comes with a notable weight increase compared to its competitor. This new model highlights the evolving landscape of smaller displacement adventure motorcycles.
A new player is emerging in the small-bore rally motorcycle segment: the TVS Apache RTX 300. This India-based manufacturer, known for producing BMW's G310 series and owning Norton Motorcycles, is launching its new model in the European market. The Apache RTX 300 is positioned as a direct competitor to the popular Honda CRF300L Rally, boasting some impressive power figures.
According to TVS, the Apache RTX 300 produces 36 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 21 pound-feet of torque at 7,000 rpm from its liquid-cooled 300cc single-cylinder engine. These numbers are a significant step up from the Honda CRF300L Rally, which typically makes around 27 horsepower and 19.5 pound-feet of torque. For riders who appreciate extra capability, particularly on the highway, this power advantage could be a major draw.
However, the increased performance comes with a trade-off in weight. The Apache RTX 300 weighs in at just under 400 pounds at the curb, which is about 60 pounds heavier than the CRF300L's 335-pound curb weight. This substantial difference could impact the bike's agility and off-road handling, a crucial consideration for rally and adventure riders. While TVS has no immediate plans to enter the US market with this specific model, the company's global presence and manufacturing ties (including Norton's re-entry into the US) suggest that their influence on the motorcycle market is growing.
