Girts Ozolins, known for his work in electronic music and as the founder of Erica Synths, has a deep appreciation for raw, industrial aesthetics. This passion extends beyond sound design into his love for motorcycles, leading him to commission a custom Yamaha MT-01 from ZEPS Moto.
Ozolins' vision for the MT-01 was to strip away the unnecessary and create a bike that is both minimalist and mechanically exposed. The most striking modification is the conversion from chain to belt drive, a complex undertaking that involved extensive custom fabrication. This change required a new swingarm, sprocket, and a bespoke belt tensioner system, all meticulously engineered to handle the MT-01's torque.
Beyond the drivetrain, the custom build features a handcrafted aluminum fuel tank and tail section, designed to integrate seamlessly with the bike's lines. The frame was modified to accommodate these new components, and the electrical system was completely rewired and hidden. The bike's stance is further enhanced by upgraded suspension components, including a modified Yamaha R1 fork and a custom-built rear shock.
